I like fountain pens. I love drawing with them. But I've always had bad luck in maintaining them or using the right inks. I accidentally threw away my last one. Darn it. I am going to have to buy a new one because someone sent me an ebook to review.
It is obvious that Pat Van Kirk Wilson knows about matters of sketching in pen and ink. I just finished my read through of the ebook entitled A Guide to Pen, Ink, and Watercolor Wash Sketching and the amount of information and personal knowledge packed into the 62 pages is impressive. It is published by www.PenInkWatercolorSketching.com, an associate of FunLessonPlans.com LLC, Wilson Publishing.
The ebook is richly illustrated and it is well written. We are introduced into the world of nibs and inks, brushes and paper, and a lot more in the voice of a friend who's been there, done that, and then just happened to have it nicely done up for you in an easy to read package.
There are 18 sections (or chapters) including topics such as Pens, Inks, Paper, Sketching, Hatching, Brushes, Watercolor Painting, Wash Painting, Colored Inks, as well as how to choose your subject matter, sketching outdoors, history of sketching, indepth information on vintage fountain pens, and even more.
Besides being struck by all the lovely illustrations, I was impressed with the solid advice and genuine knowledge found in this book. You will find many jewels buried in the hints, tips, and personal anecdotes. Need to know about basic color theory, perspective, drawing figures, drawing landscapes or still lfe, or using pencil or even why we sketch? It's in there.
I appreciated the ink-specific drawing and composition advice in the sketching section, and smiled at the numerous plein air setups ranging in size from tote bag to pocket-sized presented in the ebook. (I am a gear geek)
Judging from the quality of the information, I am certain a lot of time and money went into testing and evaluating the name brand tools and art materials in this ebook. So paying $5.95 to find out what current materials are the best to use when sketching in pen, ink, and watercolor washes is a very good value. That you get the rest of the expertise included in the same price is downright cool.
If you've thought about sketching or drawing in pen and ink and need some professional advice about how to proceed, this is the best ebook primer I've seen on the subject.

Good product. Good people. Thumbs up!
